Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 30, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Device Nanny Inc. ("Device Nanny," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information in connection with the Device Nanny desktop application (the "Application") and the website located at devicenanny.com (the "Website"). Device Nanny Inc. is incorporated in Ontario, Canada, and is subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

1. Information processed locally by the Application

The Application reads the list of software applications installed on a mobile device connected to the user's computer and compares that list against a database of applications maintained by Device Nanny. Scan results, device profiles, and scan history are stored exclusively on the user's computer.

The Application does not access, read, transmit, or store message content, photographs, browsing history, contacts, or location data from the connected device. The Application does not install software on the connected device and does not operate in the background. No information about a connected device, or about any child associated with a device profile, is transmitted to Device Nanny or to any third party.

2. Information we collect

Device Nanny collects the following categories of personal information:

  • Account information. The email address and password provided when an account is created. Passwords are stored in hashed form and are not accessible to Device Nanny.
  • Authentication data. A timestamp recorded when a user signs in to the Application, used to verify that the account and subscription are active. This is the only data transmitted by the Application during ordinary use.
  • Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. Device Nanny does not receive or store full payment card numbers. Device Nanny receives the purchaser's name, email address, subscription plan, and transaction status.
  • Marketing communications. Where a user subscribes to email communications, the user's email address is stored with Kit, our email service provider. Users may unsubscribe at any time using the link included in each message.
  • Website analytics. Aggregate, non-identifying usage data for the Website, including pages visited and general geographic region.
  • Voluntary reports. Where a user elects to submit an application for review using the "report an app" feature, the application identifier and any note entered by the user are transmitted to Device Nanny. This feature is initiated solely by the user.

3. Information we do not collect

Device Nanny does not collect:

  • Personal information about any child, including name, age, or installed applications;
  • Scan results or scan history;
  • Usage or telemetry data from within the Application;
  • Location data from the user or from any connected device.

4. Children's privacy

The Application and Website are intended for use by adults who are parents or legal guardians. Device Nanny does not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 18. Device profiles created within the Application, including any name assigned to a profile, are stored only on the user's computer and are not transmitted to Device Nanny.

5. Use of information

Device Nanny uses the information described in Section 2 to:

  • Create and administer user accounts;
  • Verify subscription status and deliver the Application's paid features;
  • Process payments and maintain transaction records;
  • Send communications the user has requested;
  • Maintain and improve the Website and the Application;
  • Comply with legal obligations.

6. Disclosure of information

Device Nanny does not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Personal information is disclosed only to service providers engaged to operate the Application and Website, namely Stripe, Inc. (payment processing), Kit (email delivery), Vercel Inc. (Website hosting), and Microsoft Corporation (account and authentication services). Each service provider is contractually restricted to processing personal information for the purposes for which it was engaged.

Device Nanny may disclose personal information where required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or where necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Device Nanny, its users, or others.

7. Retention

Account information is retained for the duration of the account. Upon closure of an account, account information is deleted within 30 days, except for transaction records that Device Nanny is required to retain under applicable tax and accounting legislation. Information stored on the user's computer is under the user's control and may be removed by uninstalling the Application.

8. Security

Device Nanny employs reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information it holds. No method of transmission or storage is entirely secure, and Device Nanny cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, users may request access to the personal information Device Nanny holds about them, request correction of inaccurate information, or request deletion of their information. Requests may be submitted to info@devicenanny.com. Device Nanny will respond within 30 days of receipt.
